Iblis

From AnthroWiki

Iblis (also Eblis, Arabic إبليس, DMG Iblīs, Deceiver) belongs to the realm of the Djinn in Islam. According to Rudolf Steiner he is identical with Lucifer.

„"Iblis" is already characterised by its name as related to "Eblis": this is the name of the figure we call "Lucifer" in the Mohammedan tradition. A kind of female aspect of "Eblis", the Mohammedan Lucifer, is "Iblis", with whom was associated, in addition to his evil arts by which he worked against the Grail in the Middle Ages, the one called the evil sorcerer Klinschor.“ (Lit.:GA 144, p. 71)

Before Iblis fell out of favour with Allah because of his arrogance, he was named Azazil (Arabic عزازل, DMG ʿAzāzil) and was so highly respected that he was given the honour of guarding the gates of Paradise, which is actually the task of the angels Ridwan.
