GA 288
Architecture, Sculpture and Painting of the First Goetheanum
Architektur, Plastik und Malerei des ersten Goetheanum
Nine lectures given in various places between 10 April 1915 and 12 June 1920.
The First Goetheanum was a Gesamtkunstwerk. It was the expression of a powerful creative will in every detail. Its destruction shortly after completion meant that only photographs have survived on the basis of which one has to work out Rudolf Steiner's intentions for oneself and create one's own images. This new volume of the Rudolf Steiner Gesamtausgabe offers the opportunity to do so. It contains nine lectures in which Rudolf Steiner presents the spiritual artistic impulse in detail. Among them are three public lectures in which he tried to justify, in a climate of numerous hostilities, what the task of this construction consists of. In the present edition, all the photographs that Rudolf Steiner showed in his lectures are reproduced in the appendix. This makes it possible to follow these lectures along the illustrations that he commented on in each case, supported by numerous explanatory text notes by the editor.
