- Function: Representation of the International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration. This template has a dual purpose:
- 'It serves, for the time being, to ensure display even for those browsers that can display Unicode but cannot select a suitable Font (especially Internet Explorer). However, it is a prerequisite that one of the suitable fonts is installed (e.g. Arial Unicode MS). Apart from Sanskrit, the template is also suitable for transliterating other Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Tamil etc.
- It marks the corresponding text as a Romanisation of a foreign language. For this purpose, the language code should also be specified. The specification of the language code is optional, but highly recommended. Therefore, this template may only be used for words in IAST.
- You write in the page: {{IAST|text|language}} e.g. {{IAST|upaṇiṣad|sa}} for Sanskrit.
