A collective (Latincolligere "to seek together, to gather together"), in the most general sense a collection of similar units which together form a higher whole, is a social community which is still largely determined by the common group soul and still little by the free interaction of the individuals. Examples of this are family or tribal associations, ethnic groups or entire peoples, and sometimes also religious communities in the broadest sense. Just as the individual forms his or her destiny, his or her karma, a collective karma is also formed.

In the context of the economy, the collective means the entire workforce of a company.
