Now you can understand why the mystic must withdraw into himself. The real mystic must be an explorer of the inner being. He tries to revisit those stages of evolution through which he was created.

			If we could close our eyes completely to all light and then create light within ourselves until the world appears illuminated from within, then we could sink into ourselves into the creating wisdom and see through everything within. This has a practical value, for one remembers that basically man has built himself up by passing through the mineral, vegetable and animal kingdoms; that is also all within him. What is outside in the world are the remnants of what man once was. In its origin, the human heart was related to what went on outside. At the moment when one immerses oneself in the heart, one creates the environment as it was at the time when the heart came into being in Lemurian times. If you concentrate on the activity of the heart, you can conjure up the whole environment of the Lemurian time when the heart was formed. The Lemurian landscapes then emerge in us. Whoever concentrates on the heart sees the formation of the human race.

			By concentrating on the inside of the brain, which only gradually came into being during the Atlantean period, one sees the Atlantean landscapes emerge. Concentrating on the solar plexus, one is led to the Hyperboreans. Thus one ascends backwards into the worlds that have passed away. This is not brooding within oneself, but a real perception of the individual organs in their relationship to the world. This is how Paracelsus found his remedies and cured. He knew that Digitalis purpurea came into being when the human heart came into being. By concentrating on one organ, corresponding remedies appear.
