This template is used to present text in [[Wikipedia:Persian language|Persian language]] and [[Wikipedia:Persian alphabet|Arabic script]] in a consistent and readable way according to [[Wikipedia:Foreign word formatting]]. It also helps browsers, [[Wikipedia:Screenreader|Screenreader]]s and search engines to handle the text better by specifying the writing direction and the language of the text (=Persian).

Optionally, different transcriptions as well as the meaning of the word can be given.
