'''Astronomy''' (from {{Greek|ἀστρονομία}} ''astronomía'' "observation of the regularity of the stars", composed of {{lang|grc|ἀστήρ}} ''astér'' "star" and {{lang|grc|νόμος}} ''nómos'' "law") is the [[science]] of the properties, movements and formation of the [[star]]s. Today it is sharply distinguished from [[astrology]] ({{Greek|ἀστρολογία}} ''astrología''), which is based on the systematic interpretation of the relationship of certain cosmic constellations, especially the position of the [[planet]]s in the [[zodiac]], to the earthly life of [[man]].

[[Rudolf Steiner]] showed how the astronomical approach can be deepened spiritually without therefore abandoning its strictly scientific character. He describes the basic principles of planetary motion in a completely new way. In addition to screw movements, which we also know from the Copernican worldview, he describes "artistic" movements and above all [[lemniscate orbit]]s of the planets.
